Welcome
to
April Valley Bichons!

Come on in
and have a nice visit.
Established in 1987
What is a Bichon Frise? Bichons are very sweet, gentle, loving, adoring, funny, little balls of white puffy hair. They love all ages
of people and adapt themselves to each age group to meet the needs of that age group. For children they will play ball or Frisbee
for hours. For adults they will follow you around the house or sit in you lap while you read or watch TV. They will delight you with
their silly playful antics. They look into your eyes with their big brown adoring eyes as if to say, "I love you!" When they get all
excited they will run around the house or yard in what we call the "Bichon Blitz." They can be both energetic and calm throughout
the day. They are very smart and can be obedience trained or trained to do all kinds of tricks. They are not a fragile dog. They love
to go for long or short walks. They are considered a healthy dog. Bichons are wonderful pets.

Do they have any negative traits? Bichons can be very sensitive; they can get their "feelings" hurt. They are considered
non-shedding but they can scratch their hair out. Bichons are hypoallergenic for most people. There are about 10% of people who
are allergic to Bichons. Bichons are companion dogs and do not do well being left alone for hours on end. They will suffer from
anxiety separation. Most Bichons love to go for rides in the car providing it is not just to the groomer or Vet. Some Bichons get
car sick. Car sickness can be a response to going places they do not like; some is simply due to motion. Most Bichons outgrow
car sickness. Bichons are not nuisance barkers but they will bark when people come to the house or when they see dogs pass
their house. Most Bichons have some eye staining in various degrees. Some Bichons can have allergies to grass, pollen or insect
bites.

How much Grooming does the Bichon Frise Require? Bichons are double coated with hair not fur. They can mat easily if left
in long hair without being slickered or combed frequently. They need to have the hair pulled from their ear canals, nails trimmed,
and their hair cut. Most people take their Bichons to a professional groomer every 4-6 weeks. Daily slickering and combing will
help keep Bichons mat free and clean. Most dirt from daily walks brushes out when dry.

What is the Procedure for Purchasing a Puppy? When we have puppies, they will be ready to leave starting from 9 weeks of
age onward. They will have gone to the vet for at least their first set of shots and wormed for roundworms. All our puppies go to
their new homes with Health Certificates from my vet. I start the housebreaking process and kennel/crate training process. Some
puppies are able to sleep through the night.

All of our fathers are Champions who have been OFA for hips, OFA for knees and CERF yearly for eyes. Most of our mothers are
Champions. All of our mothers are OFA for hips, OFA for knees and CERF yearly for eyes.

I conduct telephone interviews for everyone interested in our puppies. The best time to get me by telephone is in the late
afternoons and in the evenings. I am usually grooming or taking care of dogs in the morning. I require a $500 returnable deposit.
When the puppies are around 7 weeks of age I have people come to visit the puppies, myself and the parents. I am looking to
place together puppies and families best suited to each other. I will ask you what you are looking for in a puppy, personality wise,
and then try to match families with the puppy most suited to your family. I have upon occasion returned deposits to families if I felt
there would not be a good match or for other reasons. Please respect my decision if I return your deposit. My aim is for puppies
and family members to be happy with each other.

At the first visit, if all goes well and we are comfortable with each other, I will give you a puppy packet with literature for you to
read and a list of supplies to order. After the puppies have received their first set of shots and you have received you supplies they
will be ready to leave for their new homes.

I do have a Contract to be signed by you. I guarantee the health of my puppies. All pets are required to be spayed or neutered at
age 6 months, I do not sell breeding stock, the only dogs that can be bred from my puppies are dogs that have earned their
Championships and have passed all their health tests. I keep the AKC Application Papers until you send me a spay/neuter
certificate or copy of your bill from you vet. All my Companion Pets are sold with a limited AKC Registration. This means that if
you had a litter of puppy by accident or otherwise, they would not be able to be registered with the AKC.

As a Show Breeder, I am breeding for quality, health, temperament and the AKC Bichon Frise show standard. All puppies that I
do not keep for the show ring for myself are placed as loving companion pets or potential show puppies/dogs. All my companion
pets and potential show puppies/dogs are sold at the same price, only the contracts and requirements are different.

Bichons are very loving, playful, lap dogs. As a general rule, the girls love you and the boys adore you. Girls are more independent
and stubborn; the boys tend to be more attentive, obedient and needy. My suggestion is that you choose a puppy by
temperament rather than by the sex of the dog.
